Chelsea leave it till late to beat Everton

February 21, 2014
Barclays Premier League
Chelsea 1, Everton 0

With the self-proclaimed "Chosen One", Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho, insisting that his team is unlikely to be title contenders this season, his players seem to prove him otherwise.

Taking on Everton on home ground at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea had the advantage of having the home crowd behind them but left it till late, the 93rd minute, to finally secure the lead and sealed the victory for what had been a frustrating match for them.

Temper flared on the pitch as each side began to vent their frustration with missed passes and rash tackles. Mourinho made three substitutions, sending on Fernando Torres (in place of the diligent Willian) who was more concerned with complaining to the referee rather than attempting proper shots on target.

Andre Schurrle was also dispatched to beef up central midfield and aid in attacking efforts but the German national player missed vital opportunities to put his side ahead on the goal sheet. Oscar made way for Ramires who, as usual, worked incredibly hard in the match and had his chances at goal as well.

Lampard eventually allowed the tension to ease with a free kick though Terry claimed the goal, having stuck his foot dangerously with a slide. Perhaps Terry's actions placed some pressure on the keeper, Tim Howard, who made some crucial saves early in the afternoon to keep Everton in the game.

Happy Valentine's Day!

To all my readers and fans out there, here's wishing all of you a Happy Valentine's Day! If you're single, fret not, you're not alone and you can always celebrate the occasion with your friends.

You're also not alone if you aren't looking forward to Valentine's Day. A US Sheriff has cancelled Valentine's Day, according to this article, to ensure that the county resident stay indoors from a coldstorm instead of heading outside to buy presents in accordance with the special day tradition.

The most common traditional gift that you can get for your beloved one, or even your crush, is flowers. If you're stumped at what to get, especially if your partner is a girl, flowers are unlikely to be a wrong choice, unless she said explicitly that she detests flowers. (She could be allergic to plants.)

Of course, some may lament that flowers and chocolates are too common for a girl's liking and you should turn to something else to display your individuality and uniqueness, thus enhancing your charm and attractiveness.

Origins of Valentine's Day

According to Wikipedia, here's the interesting description:
St. Valentine's Day began as a liturgical celebration of one or more early Christian saints named Valentinus. Several martyrdom stories were invented for the various Valentines that belonged to February 14, and added to later martyrologies. A popular hagiographical account of Saint Valentine of Rome states that he was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians, who were persecuted under the Roman Empire. According to legend, during his imprisonment, he healed the daughter of his jailer, Asterius. An embellishment to this story states that before his execution he wrote her a letter signed "Your Valentine" as a farewell. Today, Saint Valentine's Day is an official feast day in the Anglican Communion, as well as in the Lutheran Church. The Eastern Orthodox Church also celebrates Saint Valentine's Day, albeit on July 6 and July 30, the former date in honor of the Roman presbyter Saint Valentine, and the latter date in honor of Hieromartyr Valentine, the Bishop of Interamna (modern Terni). In Brazil, the Dia de São Valentim is recognized on June 12.
